The success and popularity of Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson all began when The Rock joined The Nation of Domination in late 1997. Before joining the heel faction, Rocky has been going through a tough time in the WWF as the landscape of professional wrestling was going through changes. Fans wanted to get behind the outlaws and "anti-heroes" of professional wrestling and guys like Rocky Maivia were seemingly passé. When Rock was asked if he would like to turn into a bad guy and join The Nation, he jumped at the chance.
Rocky became the standout superstar of The Nation and by 1998 The Rock would lead the group. Over time, Rock's popularity couldn't be denied and the decision was ultimately made to push Rock into the main event scene. This video looks at Rock's entire run in the Nation and his rise to superstardom within the WWF / WWE.

yea 💯👍🏿🔥
Damn this hard!
I think a lot of people don't realize, factions helped bring young guys up and helped them get over big time. To me good factions are a key component to good wrestling.
I swear this dude jus rapped the whole concept I was thinking of while looking to sample the N.O.D intro. &Dude Fuckin Killed it too complete 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥 s/o to him Edit: I really ran that intro back 15x R8ED 🔥🔥🔥🔥
One week after WWF Summerslam 1997, Rocky Maivia returns to the WWF and joins The Nation. Ironically enough, one week before WrestleMania XIV 1998, Same 2 guys in the ring, this time, it's "The Rock" Rocky Maivia coming to the ring and purposely hitting Faarooq in the head with the Steel Chair, officially next Monday's DOMINATION of Faarooq OUT of "The Nation" and thus becoming "The Ruler Of The Nation" and Intercontinental Champion.
"The Black Chipper" slowly becomes "The Rock"
#BlackChipper 🖤✊🏾👊🏾
"Black Chipper" Rocky Maivia evolves into "The Rock" Rocky Maivia of "the Nation" in the World Wrestling Federation August 11, 1997 - October 18, 1998
They showed only once and I repeat ONLY ONCE the post match SS 98 interview the rock gave saying to chyna about her hitting the rock in his million dollar jewels
Used to make my custom characters finisher, Farooqs. As a kid, it just looked devastating.
The rock is the biggest sellout in wrestling history
Epic!!!!!!!
Awsome vid. Very well put. I go back and forth between this and the birth of stone cold.
The Nation of Domination did Help the Rock, no doubt, but the fans helped too. The fans changed, it wasn't like the 70's and 80's where everyone always rooted for the face and booed the heel. The new generation of fans were bored with that. If the fans loved The Rock as babyface Rocky, he wouldn't never been The Rock.
About 15mins in i was like why is he just talkomg about the nation lol then i read the title thought it was all the rock not just nation rock
Amazing intro. I keep replaying it!
Thanks, glad you like it
His outfits. 🔥

That intro song is great! Love it
Thanks!!
I remember when rock went from rocky to the rock. The elbow put him over massively in my house as a kid lol
Next Video Should Be The Rock With The Corporation
The Rock never left the Nation and the Nation never left the Rock, he threw up the fist before and after every win, whether he was the champ or not!!!!!
4:19 is a really unfortunate screenshot.
As we all know... the best damn intercontinetal champion... there ever was.
From pebble to stone to Rock The evolution of The Rock
This is the first time that I heard about the Nation of Domination. Even though they were heels, as a Blackman, they’re a face to me
Corporate Rock
The problem with the rock going after Austin for the intercontinental title is Austin didn't put anyone over but Brett hart. The bitch didn't like losing clean.
Amazing video. The only problem is that u didn’t mention what Happened with The Godfather you only mentioned Owen dlo and Henry
I can’t take the dx man on HHH shoulders rocking out 😆 15:12
I DON'T SEE IN BLACK AND WHITE!!!!! I SEE IN COLOR!!!!!🤣
The Rocks biggest assist has always been the gift of the Gab. You could cheer or Boo him depending what came out it but my gaud, you always are entertained by him!
Man that intro 🔥 🔥🔥🔥🔥😉🙌🏽💯✔
I feel like Rock staying with the Nation would have really helped Dlo
Good catch on that backstage segment from the 9-14-'98 episode of Raw, I've always viewed that as the kinda silent end to the Nation.
Is there any explanation why the Rock always refers to himself in the third person
Anybody remember the rock n sock connection???
You make beats as well. I gotta throw you a sub for that.
I remember the New Rock nation theme hit at Summer slam 98 the whole place was going hard! Made DX Band and HHH look like trash lol.
Intro goes hard 🔥🔥🔥
I remember playing WWF War Zone on N64 as a kid. JR would always refer to The Rock as "Rocky Maivia" and it always left me super confused because I missed The Rock's early storylines like this.
rocky sucks
They need a “Wrestling Bio” theme album. All the remixs to wrestlers themes here is super 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥.....i want alll of them. Specially the hhh one.
I remember him as Flex Kavana
10/10 intro my goodness
Thanks man 💪🏾💪🏾
Chris Benoit in wcw year and ecw year
Now he endorses pedos.
Damn, I loved that opening rap remix. Badass.
I appreciate that
That intro was fire
Thanks alot
Could you imagine white wrestlers doing this angle?Yeah..
Rock with hair never looked right even back in the 90s
Yeah the curly hair happy rock just didn’t sit right with me lol
Yoo this video was so worth the wait for the intro alone!!
I appreciate that
Wrestling Bios this was your BEST video intro yet Cheers mate
I tried to keep up with the greatness lol
A video on Right to Censor would be cool
I thinks it was great. Farooq did greatwork with rocky Johnson. And gave his boy the boost he needed.
I hate The Rock of now, but this version is the best & when I used to like him
Great times in Wrestling, I liked THE ROCK the most at this time from 1997 to 2003 or so ;-) Awesome Video.
Never realized how many pins the Rock took on his rise to legend status. Just goes to how how great he was.
Rock was the poster boy for "wins and loses don't matter" because WWE jobbed him out constantly
This video was excellent! I remember watching all of this as a kid so seeing this again was a great trip down memory lane.
Please review McMahon vs triple h feud of 1999 or triple vs the rock 99-00
🔥🔥🔥🔥 intro
Similarities between the rocks theme music and the group ndn theme music. 🤔
The story of The Rock in The Corporation next....?
That triple threat cage match was really fun
My earliest wrestling memory is of the Nation of Domination standing up in the box seats while I think stone cold was in the ring.
I didn't know he was nicknamed "The Rock" because of his IQ ; )
The Rock lost it trying to get me to vote for crooked creepy joe
Acolytes bio next!!
I've always said, what Dwayne did was 5x more impressive than what Steve Austin did. He was a white guy bucking authority and had a perfect heel in Vince McMahon. That's been done throughout the history of wrestling. How many Blacks or Samoans became main eventers without being stereotypes of their backgrounds? And Dwayne developed it all on the fly. He's definitely higher on my list than Austin because his degree of difficulty was off the charts.
Very true. And the rock only held the heavyweight title for about a years time total which is crazy to me. But he truly was the people’s champ even if he didn’t have the belt we were focused on him
Beautifully said.
Those white smark fans with those douchy "Die Rocky Die" signs didn't deserve The Rock.
Hey look, it's Dwayne Johnson when he was booked as a Black man.
When you mixed you got an advantage. Bi racial people can do that. What race are you? Cherokee right! 😅😅😅😅
Someone needs to lay the smackdown on the Rock for supporting sleepy Joe Biden for president
lol naw
Thumbs down on the garbage hip hop at the end
Love the intro theme
💪🏾💪🏾💪🏾
The rock nation of domination gimmick is underrated
This is some of your best work! Thanks brother 🤘
Fans don't like black token nice guy
The GOAT
The 'hurt business' is trying to emulate the same thing tha NoD done. But the only person who can do mic work like Rock did is MVP, and he is nowhere near the same caliber as rocky. He's also a bit too long in the tooth to be pushing at times like this.
Undoubtedly one of the best entrance themes I've ever heard .. always loved the nation's theme anyway but DAMN with those lyrics it's amazing
Jesus Christ that theme is unbelievable
Thanks man
awesome video!
Good analysis. It’s funny, while he was certainly entertaining in the Nation, if you had told me then he’d end up,being one of Hollywood’s most bankable stars, I’d have been shocked.
Joining the Nation was a critical path for the Rise of The Rock. Great vid. Even better intro. The Nation's theme is incredibly underrated.
The song is really good
I appreciate that CQ
The Rock was a Genius back in the old Days
God this was such the best moment in wrestling when the attitude era was picking up... If we only knew at the time how special of a moment it was!
Rocky Maivia joining the Nation and becoming The Rock was the best thing that ever happened in his early days in the company, when he turned heel, it completely freshened up his character as the smiley goody two shoes face wasn't flying with the fans and he was getting lots of boos with chants of 'ROCKY SUCKS' and 'DIE ROCKY DIE' The change allowed Rock to not only be himself but to also showcase his mic skills in promos and i felt this was the slow start of him becoming quite possibly the greatest talker of all time. His segments with Faarooq were absolute classics especially the one where he gave him a picture of himself as a gift and all due respect to Faarooq, the Nation got much better when Rock became the group's new leader and Owen Hart joining them as it cemented them as a serious faction. Fast forward 23 years later and The Rock is not only a wrestling household name but one of the biggest movie stars on the planet
This was great, I'm curious, will you cover anymore of the Rock's career?
Can you do a "Acolyte Protection Agency" bio, please?
Yes this!
The two out of three falls match against hhh is underrated even with the finish.#MikeNice
Joining the Nation was definitely the best move The Rock made.
Within the next 20 years i guarantee that Americans will be calling the Rock, Mr President Rock " The Dwayne " Johnson
That handicap match between him D'Lo Brown and Mark Henry was like the first WWF match I've watched
The ROCK had steroid boobs 😂🤣😂
It's nice having someone talk about wrestling and not be a mark 👍🏻
Nation Rock was Dwayne Johnson's best gimmick.
This is why I love this channel! Dwayne Johnson is owner of XFL wtf!!!! Who would’ve thought Rocky Mavia would’ve gone this FAR!!!! From the Blue Chipper(Jim Ross) to owner/famous actor/businessman Dwayne The Rock Johnson
