The nWo stable and storyline had been incredibly succesful for WCW during the mid 90s. Scott Hall, Kevin Nash and Hulk Hogan changed the wrestling world by forming a heel group that would attempt to take over World Championship Wrestling, resulting in WCW defeating the WWF in the weekly television ratings. All good things must come to an end though, and by early to mid 1999, the nWo had drifted apart.
When Vince Russo joined WCW as head of creative, he wanted to bring Bret Hart back into main event scene. Bret had been misused in WCW since his debut, and Russo saw the potential in raising Hart up to a spot that Russo felt Bret truly deserved. Within a month or so of Russo writing television, Bret was given the WCW World Heavyweight Championship. A month later, after a well documented match with Bill Goldberg at Starrcade 1999, Bret Hart turned heel, reviving the New World Order name in the process. This new version of the heel stable, known as nWo 2000, would also include The Outsiders, Jeff Jarrett, Scott Steiner and eventually The Harris Brothers.
This video looks at the creation of nWo 2000, the groups brief run in WCW, and how it all fell apart within mere months. Topics include:
00:00 - The overexposure of the nWo
02:11 - Vince Russo pushes Bret Hart in WCW
05:48 - Seeds are planted for nWo 2000's formation
08:22 - nWo 2000 is formed after Starrcade 1999
12:42 - The immediate issues with a new nWo
15:24 - nWo 2000 already begins breaking down
18:00 - Bret Hart and Jeff Jarrett miss Souled Out 2000

The Story of nWo 2000

My dad was part of the NWO at one point.
Jeff Jarrett was pure entertainment when he returned to WCW. Not sure why so many people don’t like him. Also did nWo 2000 have a leader? I kinda remember Jeff Jarrett or Bret Hart being the head of the group.
I always wanted one of those nwo2000 shirts as a kid
I just looked it up online and the first result that came up is $100 b😮🤦🏾♂️
How many times has William Goldberg the 3rd injured himself trying to prove (to himself) how tough he is?
11:58 - Bret didn't "get the win" at all. Piper, drunk and coked out of his mind, ran in and pinned Goldberg. Inexplicably, the ref counted three. A botch so hilariously stupid, nobody could hide their laughter.
The nwo should have been no more then 6 people and that's it they made almost everybody apart of the nwo and watered it down smh
That intro
Bret should have been brought in as the 4th member of the og now!
I remember when nwo 2000 was formed my favorite members were Kevin nash, Scott Steiner and Jeff Jarrett
Ughhhhh. That late 90s “guy A violently attacks guy B only for them to be working together the whole time” trope was just. So. Stupid. Even as a kid back then it bothered me.
If Goldberg wasn't so stupid and injured Bret and himself, wcw may still have some slim chance against wwf
In early 90's WCW was greating star like Ravishing rick rude, british the bull dogg and Sting with vader n cactus Jack!! Was the best than Hulk hogan came in along macho man it still was good than NWO and little bi little WCW was doing poor management in the company!!!
When everybody is nWo nobody is nWo.
Bret should never have been made heel at this point imo.
Vacates the belt saying he wants to win fairly, proceeds to cheat the same night to retake the belt. Why vacate it then? LOOL
Jeff Jarrett could never get over alone he just doesn’t look like he belongs at all
WCW really went to hell after Jericho and the Radicalz jumped ship
Bret Hart didn't fit in being anywhere near the NWO. He seemed more like a leader, not a follower, especially being in a stable that was based off a street gang, it just didn't feel right.
The last couple years of wcw was like the fall of Rome. It was amazing to watch in a lot of ways.
NWO RULES
Too many heels not enough faces!! No way too run a wrestling promotion.
Honestly why I watch Aew Cody trying too pick up where they left off. Cause hints Elite wrestling. And Cody doing a good job, some what better than Eric. Slow and steady wins. Not fast and let's just make money
Bret with the Wu-Tang hat at 16:14!
Bret’s a big hip-hop fan.
See we need Russo back
The NWO, for all its intents and purposes, should have ended at Starrcade '97 at the least, Superbrawl '98 at the most.
This was the original nwo that was supposed to happen in 96..remember hall nash and hart contracts expired at the same time in 96
Nwo 2000 should have been ended at the bash 2000 then start the new bloods and the thrillers with Nash team Canada etc..
Bret should have been team Canada manager..
the stupidest thing russo ever did might have been trying to bring back the nwo and since nwo had been dead or should have been dead since starcade ninety seven since the entire thing was basically wrestlings version of what could have been a crow movie made into a series and russo always tried to book things that was original and new and nwo was recycled and old.
I want that intro as my ringtone
All the talent that the WCW squandered is mind-boggling. They had no idea what to do with all that talent, and it's a shame. I was never a WCW fan, never sat through an episode of Nitro, but that's why. They had the biggest names, but it was so obvious that they were star-struck. They let Hulk and his buddies run the show, and didn't bother to promote new blood. Then they let their best new guys go to WWF. Jericho, Guerrero, etc leaving killed their show... and Hulk buried it.
When you realize that nwo 2000 was the equivalent of the younger sibling playing with a controller not plugged in
Goldberg robbed us of brets final few years
NWO 2000 sucked, wcw story lines in 2000 sucked.
Jeff Jarrett and Stevie Ray being main event guys is what killed wcw.
As a kid, I knew even then this was one of the worst groups ever. Lol
I liked most of the talent involved But after the over saturation of nwo factions, by this point my care factor was nil Shame, especially considering most of the talent involved
Who is Krispen Wah?
Goldberg stiff no way, just a dumb ox should never been in a ring
Anything beyond 1998, the nWo was a joke,
Two Starrcades in a row Goldberg gets screwed in the main event. They follow it up with something sensible and potentially interesting. Then the farce is revealed and Goldberg gets screwed again. WCW was getting their asses kicked in the ratings at the time, yet they still preferred self destructing.
Lol this is time to take notice although bret hart and Shawn Michaels...was literally in the same stable.although different companies.
NWO 2000 was the weakest version of the NWO the Vince Russo Era was terrible time for Fans of WCW 😵😵😵😵😵 I just flipped the channel to USA network plus the WWF was edgier because of the attitude era and better wrestling promotion
Brett in the wcw should of been what the rock is to the wwe/wwf
You cant dopy a successful Original. Even when everythin would have run as they wanted it would had not be acceptet.
People dont like nash but nash as champ and not sod or Jarrett might have wcw.
I wonder what would have happened if the WCW/n.W.o. had actually gone to the WWF/WWE and started a WAR on RAW in a REAL Invasion angle?
Some of the best acting!! Period
NwO lasted only 3 years if they stared from 1990 up 2000 10 years but only 3 I didn't wanted to end but o well it is what it is I wonder how longer NwO continue if they didn't sold it
It is clear that Bishoff was obsessed with the NWO. It was _his_ idea, he was going to keep pushing it forever and never admit any fault or failings. Just look at NWO Souled Out or NWO Monday Nitro and it is clear that Bishoff was not impartial. I think a lot of the blame for the NWO's failure can be placed directly on him. He made something good, then completely ruined it with his own pride.
Does anyone know the name of the theme in the beginning it’s fireeeee 🤩
I bet the inside of steiners head sounded like a damn hornets nest 24/7 in 1999
You can try to duplicate other wrestlers to create the NWO but the NWO 2000 total screw up
Where was hogan at this time ?
Awesome content as always and one of the wildest rides... Also, what a fun intro I ran it back 3 times and air-guitared everytime lol
You mean PIPER the moron gets the pinfal victory. This one got a thumbs down because HOW can you just IGNORE THAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
NWO was the doom of a great beginning. Bischoff just didn't know what to do. It's stupid.
@T F yeah, you're right. I could had. Thanks for the compliment.
You could have totally done it better, right?? 😭😭😭🤣🤣🤣🤣
How do I get that full nWo theme?
It's a shame... I was more of a WCW fan than WWF even though I watched both but once mid-1999 came, I pretty much gave up on WCW for the most part and barely checked in on it ever again.
I have to be honest, that is actually my favorite New World Order logo. I don't think it's the underlining of the word new LOL I just think silver looks better than white not necessarily on a t-shirt but just sort of in a vacuum
One of the craziest and scariest things to happen that I don’t think is mentioned on this vid was the fact Bret had a hardcore match with Terry Funk with a massive concussion 🤕
...And all that could have been
Every time I see Bret in the NWO it makes me sad af
What hasn't been mentioned and isn't really seen on youtube uploads is the slow death of the first nWo. There was about 3-4 weeks of Nitro/Thunder where the scraps left over (Vincent etc) would come out with nWo attire on and the music but would lose to mid-card WCW wrestlers and it wasn't really seen as a big thing by the commentary team. Also maybe worth mentioning is the low point of the black and white when they put Stevie Ray in charge of it.
WHERE WAS STING ALL THAT TIME ??
What led to the nwo wolfpac elite in 1999 being disbanded was injuries. Nwo 2000 started and fell apart due to injuries.
Bret Hart, Scott Hall, Kevin Nash, Jeff Jarrett....one of these is unlike the others.
Another mark trying to blame Russo for WCW going downhill.
Bio lad, bio...
Bret couldn't even be bothered to wear new tights/ring gear for most of 1999. He stopped wearing glasses, he stopped wearing a jacket to the ring. He wrote in his book that someone hadn't kept an eye on his ring gear in WCW and that his leather jacket was stolen. Order a another one, dude.
If they wanted Bret Hart to be big with nWo and Brets nWo it should of been pink and black man plain and simple
The sidekick that concussed Bret here...doesn’t really look like Goldbergs fault? Maybe it was the way he took the bump. And of course he had probably taken so many over the years
The opening intro gave me goosebumps, top-tier editing.
Jeff Jarrett wasnt cool enough for the NWO that was a fail
6:25 As an Indiana University fan, I hate that oval logo.
Is there a full version of that intro remix of the NWO’s theme? I’ve been looking everywhere for it
Best group ever
Why did Bret have to vacate the belt and not just request a title defence match against Goldberg
any angle with piper in it after mania 1 is pure garbage come at me and prove me wrong
I would've always said that the biggest reason why Russo failed in WCW was because he too much control and nobody to stop him. To where in WWE, Vince had the final say in everything.
Jeff Jarrett one of the most overrated wrestlers...how he got main event status is beyond me!
Always hated Jeff Jarrett. Never fit in with any faction. He was the worst NWO member and worst 4 horsemen member.
If they had used Bret Hart as a proper star in 97 and 98 and passed the torch to the new guys wcw would still be around
Love the intro to the NWO theme on this video, wish there was a full track
Just learned the lovely nWo theme “Rockhouse” by Frank Shelley, there’s samples of Jimi Hendrix’s songs place in it. Check out this link, alfirst.info/load/q2Zsmo6nd7afgWw/video no wonder it’s an awesome theme!!!
WWF had the Millennium man, WCW had the Millennium gang.
Can you make an extended version of this remixed theme please.
Is there a full version of this intro
Let us take a moment to recognize that time that Goldberg punched through a legit car window with his bare hand.
D yeah, just seemed stupid to me
he is lucky to have not lost his arm, or worse. that cut was severe. should hae just took a bat or pipe to it.
Hart wasn't that big back then...I knew who SCSA was before watching WWF back then. I didn't know who Hart and HBK were but when wrestling got big I knew who DDP, Sting, Goldberg, SCSA, Mankind, and the Rock were without having to even watch. The young wrestlign historians and WWE communist esque revisionist history always paint them as Hogan/Rock level guys but I assure you they were not. Even when Hart was on the Simpsons I assumed he was a made up character like Duffman.
The best channel on ALfirst!!
nWo 2000 > Dork Odor
nWo 2000 sucked, hard. Jarrett was a joke, and Bret never seemed to fit with the faction. Also, too many goddamn Russo swerves OVER AND OVER AND OVER again!
LOL nWo Elite and 2000 was embaressing
Still don't understand why Disco Inferno was allowed into Wolfpac after weeks of them blowing him off.
The reason the nWo had so many people in it is because it needed to look like a threat to WCW if the chips were down and a fight happened. If the nWo only had like 6 people in it, what's stopping a roster of over 40+ WCW wrestlers from jumping them and running them off? "Hey, we're a threat to this company! All six of us..." Yeah...right. This is something that "smart" fans need to look at differently and throw that "less is more" stable formula they've learned out the window.
Would have been sick if NWO 2000 started with those guys and then the following things happen: Lance Storm wins the WCW Cruiserweight title and Bret Hart recruits him. Curt Hennig wins the US title and the NWO then beats down Jarrett, kicks him out, then offers his place to Hennig. Duggan finds the TV title in the trash (in January). Jarrett challenges Duggan for the belt and wins. Jarrett approaches NWO 2000 with his title to get reinstated. NWO 2000 beats Jarrett down again and once again throws the title away. Several months later in one PPV Lance Storm loses his title to Kidman who takes his place. Hennig loses to Benoit and Benoit and takes his place. Hall/Nash lose to Kronik due to interference from Benoit who didn't really join NWO 2000. Bret Hart then vacates the title to Hogan after NWO 2000 is clearly dissolved. Bret not doing the job to Hogan would be payback for Hogan not doing it in WWF. Feel free to insert wrestlers of your choice!
do zeus (tom Lister jr) in the wwe. greetings from N.I
Back then everything either had a 2000 or an x added to it
Vince Russo had good results in his WCW run.. look it up.. don't be sheep
For that infamous thunder promo, I always wondered if Scott Hall was drunk or if he was just rebelling against what Russo had written down. He’s mentioned in shoot interviews that he was never a fan of Russo and would go off script with what was written down
