The Raw after WrestleMania usually has a few surprises and 1996 was no exception. With WrestleMania XII all wrapped up, the WWF went into San Barnardino for Monday Night Raw and not only did we get the in-ring debut of Marc Mero (WCW's Johnny B. Badd), but Mankind also worked his very first TV match on this show. Mick Foley's Mankind character would become a huge part of the Monday Night War, and right from the get-go, Mankind made an impact.
Over on the WCW side, Eric Bischoff and company were getting ready for a rough month. Not only were there no PPVs scheduled for April 1996, but Nitro was getting ready for another pre-empted week on the 8th of April. 2 pre-empted shows in the space of a month meant storyline progession would slow down and the creative team would need to focus on building a PPV which was over 1 month away. Slamboree 1996 would also feature the "Lethal Lottery" tag matches that didn't do much in terms of storylines, so things are looking a bit shaky on Nitro over the next few weeks.
This video looks at the Monday Night ratings battle between WCW and the WWF on 4.1.96. Superstars who appeared on Raw and Nitro this week include the new WWF Champion Shawn Michaels, WCW Champion Ric Flair, The Road Warriors, The Undertaker, Sting, The Bodydonnas and many more.

Raw vs Nitro "Reliving The War": Episode 27 - April 1st 1996
622 Shikime 63 mijë
Booty man is a dark horse for nitro MVP his segments never fail to make me laugh 😆
Oj vs piper so OJ would be the babyface. Just more proof wrestling is the greatest form of entertainment try and tell me different
One more comment n I'll shut up, why did luger always get main event status he was never good they have always had better lads in the locker room better then him
Luger had the main event look back then when bodies mattered and he was over. And he was stings friend
Booty man I heard is making a comeback to pull wwe lame shows out of the hole 🕳️🕳️ What an ass 🕳️
Warrior is straight garbage
Rewatching 90's ecw wcw wwf is so much better then what wwe has to offer
WWF was building to possible match of the year in 1996 HBK/DIESEL while WCW was having the SAGA of the BOOTY on NITRO...
diesel loses at wrestlemania but the following night is given the world title shot at the next ppv 🤔
asshole man 😂😂😂
Just found this channel. It's amazing!
While I do think Mankind was one of the pillars of the WWF Attitude era, originally I hated it. Cactus Jack was outstanding and I didn't understand why WWF didn't want to use him as Cactus Jack. But ultimately Mick Foley overcame the stupidity and made the character special.
It took a few weeks to get used to Mankind but there's no denying he made a sudden impact due to McMahon selling his new gimmick. He would become an integral piece to The Attitude Era.
Did wcw just....not have mid carders in 96? It seems like every Nitro episode from then features some combination of the same 8 people
Asshole man...Lmfaooo
The casual sliding in “Asshole Man” had me rolling.
OJ vs Piper first blood match OMG that would've been epic.
Asshole man....I LOVE IT.
Love Bret my favourite wrestler ever and Shawn in the ring is one of the GOATS but that Iron Man match sucked, it was mega boring
Lot of rest holds for the most part but still a legendary match
Lmfao, the ref kicks Flair's arm off the rope. WCW decision making. ;p
Every week I keep refreshing my ALfirst feed in anticipation of the next Raw vs Nitro "Reliving The War" episode.
Wasn't Sable sleeping with Vince are is that just a rumor.
Wasn't Sable sleeping with Vince are is that just a rumor.
OJ Simpson vs. Piper would have been insane
"Double A and Asshole Man start things off" lmao
Can you do a WWE NXT VS AEW DYNAMITE?
I watched both but mainly Nitro.
23:42 Pretty sure Flair did that pose to troll HBK.
i like how you pointed out that fans sign, hilarious signs need to be pointed out like that. I was a cactus fan and I actually loved mankinds wwe gimmick freaked me out as a kid he was a believable character
So many future Attitude era wrestlers mentioned.
Poor Kimberly, she must’ve been so cold.
Where is episode 27!!?
I saw the Mankind debut as it aired as a kid, and I was instantly hooked by the character. I had no knowledge of Foley from elsewhere at the time, so this was my first exposure to him and when he started fueding with Undertaker (my favorite at the time, and at most other times) I was super invested right away because of his debut matches/segments
You’re commentary on the bootyman kills me every time lol, great videos keep up the good work
Ric tried so many times to put that looser over. My god Ric Flair couldn’t even make that looser look good.
Flair doesn’t change nameplate because he wants to tease the Macho man they don’t let you know that’s the reason for awhile longer
WOW! Where can I get that Remix of the intro songs you used for your video's intro?! Its Awesome!
Sunny is my girl
R.i.p. owen bless the Hart family
After watching these videos week after week. It is apparent this guy is bias to WWE.
Surprise Kane & JBL cameos don't get mentioned? K.
Mankind was dope, but if you were a real wrestling fan, you immediately knew it was Cactus. I preferred Cactus, but didn't dislike Mankind. Dude Love was trash, though.
I cannot wait til we get to the arrival of the NWO, Red and yellow Hogan in early 96 is just really difficult to go through
Thank you! And keep up the amazing work! I look forward to your videos dropping every week!
14:07 "Double A and Arsehole Man." I usually struggle to sleep so I watch a bit of youtube in bed before nodding off. I find stuff funny and entertaining but I very rarely audibly laugh at stuff but "arsehole man" got a loud chuckle from me which probably woke up my flatmates. Since you cover this stuff in such an informative and fair way when you throw shade it makes for a good punchline.
Just want to say thank you for all the effort you put in to these videos, it's truly incredible! I loved wrestling as kid and missed out on the mid 90s until I started watching it again in 2000, so having this is class.
That was the best raw open ever. They refuse too see the change in me, why don't they give up!!
Were getting close the the NWO !!!!!!
Oh yeah about Mankind, i wasnt really a big fan of that gimmic when i was a kid, i always loved Cactus Jack cause he was just a straight badass to me when i was growing up so i was pretty sad when i realized Jack left WCW and turned into Mankind in WWF but i didn't know much about anything behind the scenes as a kid obviously lol. I was just always confused as to why Mick Foley kept changing gimmicks throughout his career. Pro Wrestling and everything about it was so real to me in every way when i was young. I miss those days lol. I guess we all get older and have to smarten up on the business eventually tho! Good times tho id say, good times 😁😊😂🤘🤘🤘🇺🇸 I miss the old eras of wrestling! Late 80's to early 2000's pro wrestling was the next year's to me but i grew up through those years so i hold sentiment towards all of those years, I'm sure we all do! Long live pro wrestling!!! 😎
Where is the NWWO :(
Would have given the Marc Mero match the point
Not gonna lie, i truly do love this channel and this series of the Monday night wars but i also love Brian Zane's Classic PPV reviews!!! I can't decide which is my number one!!! You guys both cover such amazing pro wrestling content. I give a point to both of you so this makes it a tie in the Neilsen tv ratings for this week 😂😂😂 I will say Wrestling Bios has the advantage tho because you have an episode out every week! I think Zane only does his PPV reviews once a month or every couple weeks or whatever. But props to you both! You are both my two ABSOLUTE FAVORITE channels on ALfirst, seriously!! Mad respect yo! 🤘🤘🤘
Man Taker use to take so many of those knees first bumps into the steps
Two blonde bombshells in the thumbnail
I think you run down Hogan way too much. Ill keep tuning in every week though
I'm still awaiting an official ruling of that sting match too. I've contacted the wwe to pull those records. I'm still salty about it.
I hope you read this, Wrestling Bios sir, for I am the mark the companies cater to. For instance, Mankind's debut. I watched WCW and knew who Cactus Jack was. But because he was off TV (for I wasn't able to receive ECW at the time) and because he wore a mask, I didn't know that Mankind was Cactus Jack. So to me, Mankind was some kind of deranged man whose crazy was a counter to Undertaker's sturdiness. I was the same for other wrestlers. I had been watching WCW Saturday night for years, since '88. But I was 6, 7, 8... so I didn't pay attention that wrestlers could wrestle anywhere. I didn't know Goldust was Dustin Rhodes. Hell, I didn't even put the name together even years after I found out who he was. I was a fan of Jean Paul Levesque/Terra Rizing; but didn't even realize he became HHH. I was just a fan of wrestling and didn't care about behind the scenes, I just love the show. I want to say thank you for this Reliving the War series; I am flashing back to so much of my childhood. You are entertaining, informative, and thought provoking. Keep up the good work, I'm excited for when we get to the 83 weeks.
A$$hole Man😂🤣😆😁
I loved this when I was 12, I can't believe that grown men actually watch this!
As a fan at the time, I thought poor old Mick was gonan be another "three months then fired" feud for the Undertaker (Kama, Kamala, Giant Gonazalez, Bundy etc), helped in no small way by an interview his friend Shane Douglas gave to Power Slam at the time.
What are you going to with the raw after over the edge. With it being a raw is owen
I feel that he should review both shows, but maybe not judge them. No points.
I was 9 years old and not caring back then, but looking back... Damn was Sunny hot!
There’s a lot of work in these videos. Thank you for bringing back memories of my favorite wrestling period!
Wrestling Bios: "The Booty Man and Hulk Hogan..." Me: "OhGodNo!"
Damn, Nitro is getting destroyed here, lol! This will probably continue up until the debut of the NWO.
I love these!!! Keep them coming!! You should do a wwe smackdown vs wcw Thunder if possible
14:08 wow someone must got a gear to grind with Ed lol. I kind of understand that during Hogans lowest point that Ed buried him but damn Asshole Man.
I was one of those Cactus Jack fans that didn't initially like Mankind. Cactus was unique. He was crazy, but also kind of witty, a layered character that matched his ring style. His stints in WCW seemed to ebb and flow and I always wanted to see him get a more sustained push, perhaps even a title run. When I saw the Mankind character revealed, I though, "Oh no, not again." Because WWF often repackaged cool wrestlers with lame gimmicks in the early-mid nineties. Mankind was more one dimensional and seemed boring to me. I knew of Foley's talents and thought they were wasted on a character that I saw as a generic stock character. Later on, Mankind evolved into a more layered character and I became a fan of the character, but it took about a year. One criticism I would have of these reviews, I must say, is that you often rate based on the projection of what happens later, like when you gave a point to Raw for the debut of the lame Ringmaster. It would be better to put yourself in the shoes of somebody in 1996 watching this who doesn't know the future. Would you, as that fan, liked the Ringmaster? Or this early version of Mankind? Or are you projecting what you know to be the good stuff these guys do later on and giving them points at the earlier stage when it hadn't yet gelled?
Sparky plug
I guess you wont receive a Christmas card from the huckster , BROTHERRRRR!!!
The name plate is addressed in a later Nitro, flair says he hasn't had it changed because he wanted to remind Randy Savage that he took it from him along with a lot more things.
As usual, great job on the content brother!! Hard to believe this was months before the NWO debut. 1 year before WCW and WWF began beating out the NBA and the NFL in the ratings. Even though it took a little while for the NWO to really make WCW the #1 wrestling show it was still one of the best business decisions Eric Bischoff ever made. If it was his idea and he did indeed come up with the faction/storyline/gimmick/angel. If it wasn't Eric's idea whoever came up with it was a real smart man. I swear after that happened WCW really took off. I'm really looking forward to mid 1997-to mid 1999. Its real hard to believe WCW and the WWF at one time was beating the NFL, NBA, MLB, and the NHL in the TV ratings. It forced millions of non-wrestling fans (not my parents) around the world to check out professional wrestling to see what it was all about.
I anxiously wait for these episodes every week!!!
Its not hArowitz, its hOrowitz!!
Sunny was so goddam hot.
Spoiler Alert: My memory may be getting worse as I get older but I am pretty sure the Booty man turns on Hogan and becomes the Zodiac. Feel free to correct me if I am wrong but I am sure that's what happens..
Alright we’re a couple episodes deep now on relieving the war. I recommend everyone catch up by watching the older videos but in case you need a recap where we are at, Raw: has been hit or miss with matches but has started debuting guys that would lead the company to wrestling renaissance. WCW: Hogan and the booty man have fought a combination of the Four Horseman and the dungeon of doom for 2 months in a row that end with screwy finishes. Sting has a bunch of great performances and there are a few promising guys like Eddie Guerrero we go weeks with out seeing. I sure hope they turn it around
LOL I love hearing about how lame Hulk was, sad and comical, so happy he turned, Hulkamania was fizzled out and his turn help create my favorite version of Sting
Double A and Asshole man 😆 🤣 😂
I'm sorry, i know it's simple humor but when WB calls Brutus Beefcake "Asshole Man" it just cracks me up 🤣🤣
That triangle tag would've been crazy in the early 90's.
the Bret vs HBK match was good dispite no pinfalls in the hour iron man match. I enjoyed the match.............. my biggest complaint was the over time part I hated it and didn't feel it was needed. after all they made the match a hour and never said it would go into over time untill Monsoon came out. that just sucked period and to me ruined the match.
That Iron Man match was everything back then. I was a huge Shawn Michaels fan.
That Goldust and Rowdy match was kinda smart, having a match then having them drive away and take a break. Then continuing the match.
Nancy Benoit was beautiful
Mick Foley wrestled in the WWF in 1987 as a jobber named Jack Foley or Nick Foley. The Mankind character marked his return to the company. This wasn't his debut.
Mankind and Cactus Jack scared me as a kid. Great work by Mick Foley
Wrestling Bios Mick Foley wrestled in WWF in 1987 as a jobber. This wasn't his debut.
Ric Flair as Champ was entertaining
The iron man match was like a great film with a terrible ending, bret goes to leave as its a draw, het gets told he has to restart the match, next thing 2 chin kicks and he is pinned
"The asshole man" That's it, we need a collab between Wrestling Bios and OSW. The amount of Irish snark would break the universe.
Notice all the boos and the fans doing the thumbs down when Hogan and Beefcake (Sorry "The Booty Man lol) were doing their promo after the match? You can see Kimberly Page looking quite uncomfortable with the reception they are getting lol.
Mankind, WWF debut Shawn Michael's becomes WWF champion after wrestlemaina 12..oh 1996 is just starting to heat up in this series
Even though Luger had Flair up in the Torture Rack, I highly doubted that Flair would have tapped out to it though. Nor, would he ever pass out from the pain either. Never, ever seen Flair tap out or pass out to any submission move (even his own mimicked on him) before and during this time period.
Hey WrestlingBios i noticed the people holding anti WCW signs in this audience too. If you watch carefully you can see a female security guard telling them to put their signs away, and then at one point she gets so angry with them showing the signs after she has told them off that she just stands at the front row to make sure they dont do it again. This is around the time the USA Network told Vince to stop antagonising Ted Turner and WCW so it makes sense why they would do this after antagonising Bischoff for months with the "Billionaire Ted" skits.
When Mick Foley made his debut as Mankind I remember being confused as to why couldn't he just be Cactus Jack but his feud with the Undertaker made me buy into the character. It really seemed like Mankind had Taker off his game especially in the early stages and him attacking him at the end of RAW set a tone for what was to come between those two.
Can imagine hulk is still trying to play his creative control card in wcw...
Hulk and friends was the worst
Am I the only one who knows this series is so Awesome I hit the 👍before watching the show? Look forward to this every week! ✌
Wcw ring mat. Nitro nitro nitro.
My uncle loves these videos. Thanks for making an old man happy.
