When it comes to moments in wrestling that are remembered for all the wrong reasons, the debut of WCW's Yeti instantly comes to mind.
World Championship Wrestling brought Halloween Havoc 1995 to audiences via pay per view, and the main event would feature Hulk Hogan defending his WCW championship against The Giant. The Giant had aligned himself with The Dungeon of Doom stable in WCW, and to ensure The Giant had an upperhand against Hogan, an insurance policy was introduced to help the "Son of Andre". This insurance policy was the Yeti, a new character in WCW who broke out from a block of ice. The Yeti, however, was quite odd. Not only did the Yeti look like a mummy, but he was also referred to as the "Yettay" by Tony Schiavone on commentary. Along with this, the Yeti's bearhug on Hulk Hogan has became infamous in it's own right.
This video takes a look at "The Yet-tay" in WCW. Topics covered include:
00:00 - Introducing The Dungeon of Doom and The Giant
03:47 - Hulk Hogan turns to the Darkside
07:35 - The original plans for "The Yeti" character
09:04 - Halloween Havoc 1995
14:00 - The Yeti character gets scrapped
- Much More!

WCW Revenge >>>> WWE2K20
They really tried to follow the undertaker but that is something you just can't beat and it's wwe original and always will be
So a mummy was called yet Tay?
My goal in 2021 is to see the yeeetaaay debut in aew and have toni call his name once again
People always say wcw 2000 was the worst but in my opinion wcw 1995-1996 before nwo was worse
It's the Yet tay , despite the fact it's an Egyptian mummy?
The Giant falls off a roof in his first angle lol
He said " it the ye-thay, not, "it IS", wich make it even funnier.😃
were those monster truck on roof tops? did I see that correctly ? mid-90's WCW was definitely their most cheesiest period in their existence LOL
This character (or maybe just Shiavone's pronunciation) apparently made an impression on a video game fan back in the day as evidenced by a video he uploaded in 2015. You can check it out here: alfirst.info/load/f2JnZIS2aNZjdWw/video
Okay, I've watched the video but I still have a question about this whole affair: Who or what is that thing dressed in toilet paper?
With this thing having been in WCW... Fred Altman gets a pass. Oh my! The Yet-tay was humping Hogan!
Was the yetay ever a playable character? In any game?
yes they learned from this mistake that they needed to make more mistakes
A Mummy named after an ice monster that walks like Frankenstein.... WCW 1996 everyone.
Who's making these songs on this account channel?
i choked on ma rice with that intro
Didn’t “The Master” call him the YE-TAY, first?, during a vignettes before Halloween Havoc?.
Monster trucks were really popular in the states at that time. Just to give you some perspective on why the did it. WWF was doing the same..i remember them using the gravedigger truck for Taker. Great video as usual.
Except atleast WWF wasn't putting them on tv or using them in stories....The only monster truck WWF ever put on their tv shows was when Austin ran over The Rock's rental car, which went along with all the other things that Austin had driven.
The super giant ninja LOL
So they wrap a guy up in toilet paper and call him the yeti??? Who wrote this stuff?
You should do a story on The Wall in WCW (That's The Wall, Brother!)
so the big show beat hulk hogan for the world heavyweight title what a legend
Please keep doing these videos. Your hitting the spot with making us relive our childhood memories thank you so much!!!
Yo that yeti song is better than 99% of rap today
Dungeon of Doom could have been a cool idea. Monster heel faction that was kind of like super villains from an 80s cartoon
What's Tony Schiavone's favorite meal? Spaghe-TAY!
I swear 90's WCW is one of the most 90's thing to happen in the 90's. You had a monster truck showdown, a stable that seemed to be hopping on the popularity of Goosebumps, stage props that looked like they're from a Power Rangers villains lair, and a wrestler going for a gimmick based of the Abominable Snowman, dressed as a Mummy, who would later become a(nother) rejected Mortal Kombat character.
I honestly think Eric Bishoff had a fluke success with the NWO being huge and all this "I wanted Nitro to be more based in reality" stuff is hindsight from him to make him seem like he was a super tv exec who knew exactly what he was doing. Because his track record shows that no, he in fact had zero freaking clue what he was doing. At least he owns up to the Yeti being his idea and a *massive* blunder...
It's The YET-AAY! & Big-Show giving Dark-HULKSTER a Double-BUMMING!!😀😀
Favorite wrestler of all time. *Yet tay!*
I could see george the animal steele as the task master
I really enjoy all of your videos but this yet-tay intro song is the greatest thing on earth.
LMAO i need the intro to this please
lol ''the Yet-Tay is having some serious fun''
"Hogan and Giant pushing each other around"? Don't you mean... Pushing and Pushing and Pushing the Truck back and forth, it just keeps going on forever and they're not keeping score. And then the giant falls off of the ledge of the building and is presumed dead... Wait, what?" ZERO STARS! 😂🤣🥳🥳
"Having his way with the Hulkster." I'm dead.
AND THE YET-TAAAAAY..... look at the siiiiize of the yet-tay
Love the end music
I love the Yeti !!!!!
@7:18 - so THAT'S where Tony Khan got inspiration. From Eazy-E! Got it @10:45 - so THAT'S where Vince McMahon got inspiration for that Titan Tower Battle Royal. Got it!
Reese/Ron Reis was also in WCW Nitro PC/N64 version and in WCW NWO/Thunder a secret wrestler to unlock. Very underrated game.
It’s funny, I was a hardcore WWF guy in 1995, but would occasionally jump to WCW from time to time. First time I recall seeing Kevin Sullivan, I thought he was Hulk Hogan Jr. Hahahaha!
Super Giant Ninja 😂😂😂
I was at this Halloween Havoc live in Michigan. As the early crowd began seating, about an hour & a half before the first match, the WCW production people messed up and actually played the pre-taped Monster Truck battle on the Trinitron Video above the ring, like they were putting the video on cue for the main event, and they totally blew it! They ruined it for all of us early fans! At all the concession stands, people were explaining what was going to happen. Kayfabe was never so fake watching them pass it off later as if happening live.
This is quickly becoming my favourite ALfirst channel. Every video is fascinating and incredibly well done.
Dungeon of doom should have been a video game sounds to silly for grown wrestling show
That opening was MORE than enough to worth clicking on this!
'Fly down, you're the Yeti now'
I did exactly that when he read that line lol.
LMAO
The Yeti is easily the pinnacle of Wrestlecrap. This is the real deal folks. Dentists, plumbers, trash men, whatever the hell Max Moon was, Phantasio, Bastion Booger, Beaver Cleavage, the Ding Dongs, Undertaker and Kane shooting lightning at each other, anything involving Mae Young or Shawn Stasiak, not even the Shockmaster or the fake Diesel/Razor Ramon can compare to the sheer awfulness of the Yeti.
Eric Bischoff did a podcast on the whole PPV and the yetti
hogan had the nwo look at halloween havoc 1995
"The Yeti" and "Super Giant Ninja". LMAO!
Its funny to think the Yeti has a longer Wrestling Bios video than the Brood lol
The intro is the greatest thing I have ever heard🤣
This track is my new workout song...;)
To this day, when I’m in a store or camping and I see a Yeti Cooler, I shout “It’s a YETAY”!!
What is this place? I've never been here before! There's no Hulkamaniacs here!
could you, no... now you must do Mantaur, at this point, from this moment, starting now, is the time for mantaur fanatics to rise!
The video narration has me laughing.
Omg I’m laughing my ass off, Hogan getting abuse in the rear by YEEEETAY!!
Best intro ever.
"You first big break and you're a mummy called The Yeti".
Reeeeeeeeeeee-Miiiiiiiiiiiiiiix. It’s the Yet-Tayyyyy!
This only proves that Eric brischoff is indeed an idiot who don't know how to run a wrestling business like bret hart said
The symbol on evil Hogan head reminds me of the symbol on Majin Vegeta if anyone here ever seen dragonball z lol
I was not prepared for this
Great as always. Do the repo man next 😂
THE YET TAYYYYYYY YETTTT TAYYYYYYY
DAM THE BIG SHOW REALLY LOOKS LIKE ANDRE I DID BELIEVE THAT WAS HIS SON IN REAL LIFE THEY GOT ME GOOD
The return of Prince Karis!!
Hey what is Tony Schiavones favorite food? SPAGHETTAAAAYYY...😂😂😂
Kevin Sullivan lol he had some great tactics. Shaving Hogan mustache
Who that in dungeon uncle fester??
Yet Tay lol b4 now days .no wonder they brought outsiders in lol
This was the best intro in the history of our sport.
Wcw still suuuuucks
Did the writers not know what a yeti is? How have they confused this with an Egyptian mummies?
Best opening ever.
Paul White might just be the most cringey wrestler ever, he just always seems so awkward with everything he does, right up to his latest promo with Randy Orton
I think we can all agree that The Yeti had a great future in the business and WCW just lost its balls. What would've fit better in the Monday Night Wars than a thawed out ancient mummy called The Yeti for some reason?
I liked the super ninja outfit a giant ninja is cool
im here from being the elite. Yeti to AEW confirmed!
Did they give Hogan a Hitler stache
I don't know if you've done it yet, but could you make a video on how the term "XPac heat" came to be? Your videos are amazing btw. Thanks for making them!
COVID 19 era Yeti would be a hero..a man covered in toilet paper.
Not even in my top five wrestling mummies
Ron Reece lowkey looked like Prince Albert.
I like "munster" trucks. They taste delicious. 😋🚜🧀
That intro lit 🔥
It's the Yet-tay! Lmao.
I always enjoy hearing people comment on this stuff from Halloween Havoc 1995. Great video.
The sunglasses looked ridiculously small on the giants head
Thank you for that apology eric
I remember watching this as it happened in 95. I didn't really understand what Tony Schavani was saying, I was waiting for someone to say something about a mummy, then he joins in on the "bearhug rump hump" on Hogan, gosh this was worse than the Shockmaster, but it wasn't in front of millions of people either. How hilarious was that, I'm still laughing.
THE YET TAYYYY HUMPS HOGAN AND CAME
This is stuff of legend!
The Giant, now know as The Big Show or just Big Show.
I thought WCW was supposed to provide an alternative to WWF cartoon characters? The entire DOD looks ridiculous
The intro is golden but the cut to Big Show almost had me in tears haha
