We have reached the end of 2003 in our complete Undertaker career retrospective. The Undertaker took on WWE chairman Vince McMahon at the 2003 Survivor Series and thanks to Kane, Big Evil was put to rest and The Undertaker was written off television. At the 2004 Royal Rumble though, we learned that The Undertaker was alive and well.
Although Mark Calaway didn't want to end the "American Badass" run of The Undertaker, the WWE higher-ups managed to talk Mark into coming back to the WWE as "The Deadman". Undertaker's previous gimmick that brought him to the dance, "The Phenom", was going to make his return at WrestleMania XX. 'Taker sent messages loud and clear to his little brother Kane in the run-up to Mania in 2004, and the career of The Undertaker was set to "All Begin... Again" in Madison Square Garden. This video looks at the Return of the Undertaker in 2004 and his match at WrestleMania XX with Kane.
Topics covered include:
00:00 - Kane puts "Big Evil" to rest
03:14 - Undertaker's hesitance to return as "The Deadman"
06:15 - The Undertaker toys with Kane in the run-up to WrestleMania

When taker 1st came out early 90s nothing like that was around..he reinvented himself and its what the all time great wrestlers do dusty ..flair..hogan..sting..Austin... as well as undertaker.. all these greats reinvented themselves and stay relevant for many many years after ...tip your hat to those who have the courage tooo...
I thought the biker gimmick was so cool. Like when Stephanie accused Taker of running over Stone Cold and he gets in the ring and doubles down on what Jericho said calling her a tramp while swishing around a mouthful of dip. I loved that Taker could interact with other superstars and be a backstage presence But the thing I love most about the biker gimmick is it kept the deadman gimmick fresh because the Brothers of Destruction on Smackdown during the 2000s was the version I probably watched the most, like when they destroyed MVP and Mr. Kennedy, good times. If he never changed his gimmick the second half of his career might not have been that long. It's the best case scenario for me.
If anybody should have ended the streak, it should have been Kane.
Where it all begins............ again.
American Badass was the undertaker outside the ring which I liked
Those Undertaker promo videos really gave me Ring vibes.
My dad worked at a airport when a house show was going on we all got pics with taker and got pics in hia coffin was one of the times they had a coffin match going on at house shows... The guys played a prank on the tickets girls said oh no a coffin opened up but the guy is georges twin and did the jumo.scare thing to them this was mid 90s
Yeah this match is cheating bc of how good both entrances were
Glenn Jacobs deserves so much credit for carrying this angle
Even though I'm one of those weirdos who enjoyed the Biker Taker gimmick, I also LOVED the return/run of The Undertaker.
Very good quality documentary
His best entrance EVER. Madison Square Garden, a hot and respectful crowd, Paul Bear, the urn, the druids, and that gorgeous shot of him walking through the flaming torches. I absolutely love it.
The aura and legend Sting wish he had
He could've combined the 2 gimmicks together. Like a Ghostrider kinda theme entrance. The arena go dark riding a motorcycle through the smoke and flames to a dark ass heavy metal music.
"oh yeahhh" 😂😂😂paul bearer was great
The smackdown after mania when he came out with that bandana had me really scared it was gonna be some shitty mash up in the end.
I liked the biker gimmick too, but he couldn’t have gone 20 years with it.
I remember Wrestlemania20...that was freaking awesome.
when the Gong hit at Royal Rumble I cheered even though Undertaker didn't appear but it let fans know the Deadman was returning. I was a long time Undertaker fan since his debut and I didn't care for his Biker Gimmick I understood his reason behind it but I was not a fan of it.
7:57 Bo Goldberg?
Deadman or not The Undertaker will always be my favorite wrestler of all time... And my hero... Because when I watch wrestling. I look up to him and I always watch one of his favorite matches back in the late 90s to early and late 2000s
Quit calling him "The Devil's Favorite Demon" when the nickname is longer than the actual name, the nickname sucks.
And also in hell there is no favorite demons are pure evil and Satan doesnt care about them
Kane wasnt even called that during that time period he didnt start began using that name til 2010
I didn’t expect anything...I was a kid and thought taker was seriously dead and didn’t know what happening lol
i am one of the few people that liked the American Badass gimmick much better than the deadman one. With all due respect to the Undertaker the deadmans entrance was slow and boring. to his credit Mark Calaway was able to do a lot without talking much as the deadman and made it legendary. it limited him a lot in his promos though and as the ABA he was much more free. the supernatural element was interesting but not as relatable or scary as his biker persona.
I remember this, because I saw it live.
Kian. Kian. Kiiiiiiian.
how are you able to post these videos without WWEf losing their sh*t??
"The Phenom was back in World Wrestling Entertainment." Technically, the Phenom was never in the WWE.
I never noticed that Kane made a comment the Streak, this is during the period where it's being mentioned but still isn't the main selling point of Taker's Wrestlemania matches.
WHERE HE LAST TRIBUTE AND APPEARANCE IN WRESTLEMANIA 36 BONEYARD MATCH
FORE ME I STILL LOVE THE AMERICAN BADASS W/BIKER UNDERTAKER PERSONA
2004 Deadman persona was awesome.
thanks for giving Kane his due credit for his work on the angle
You should do a video about the unmasking of Kane
What happens when wrestlers buried how do they get out sn breath 😂😂
Not wanting to bring the Taker gimmick back. I get it, he was limited in what he did.
Just curious, will u ever do a bio on the tragedy of Chris beniot? I still think he's innocnet
Creepy Kane + Creepy Undertaker Mind games promo videos = A Halloween horror story
i honestly thought the Deadman gimmick was a one-off when he returned in 2004
So when Undertaker came out with the bandana on the first smackdown after WM20, things were still undecided?
Love this Undertaker vs the older gimics , this was more mysterious and more iconic
Undertaker
I loved the biker gimmick myself.
This version was better than the old school religious like undertaker
Can't wait for the next undertaker video
This video sucked me in! Great work my man!
The real 🐐 of pro wrestling
Paul Bearer's 'OHHHHH YEAAAAA' at WM20 in the Garden still gives me goosebumps
Too me this was one of the best storylines between Taker and Kane they did they thing now what happened in 2010 lol 😇
Shout out to you man! This is really good stuff.
I remember HATING when they took his motorcycle, I'm a 90s baby so i grew up with the biker gimmick
5:22 where did this take place?
My fav build up and match of all time!
Undertaker will be back for next year wrestlemania 🙏🙏
lmao it took so many years for paul bearers name to click with me i thought it was just a normal name
Growing up, watching this real time... everything was perfect to me
Instead of kane this dude calls him keyun and instead of saying again he says ageeun js
American badass Undertaker is always the best from, 00/03. Taker was himself and he was funny asf. Remember David Flair? He even had good feuds with Brock. I mean come on. Deadman gimmick was boring and stale plus you can’t really connect with someone that suppose to be supernatural hell even taker got sick of it.
I think its my favorite story of wwe
he always says dead man taker woudn't have made it in the attitude era, i just don't buy that. it would have just been a less gimmicky dead man
Anybody else notice how good of an actor kane was without a mask..
When that bell 🔔 want office. at the 2004 Royal Rumble.I could feel my heart soul & stomach all at the same time drop down to my Balls..
And then years later, he got his ass kicked by Brock lesner 🤣🤣
I loved the Biker Taker. But at the same time the Deadman gimmick is just what Taker is all about.
Kane should have his last match wearing his old mask and gears and when he does his promos he should talk with that mic thing to his neck sounding like a bloody robot haha imagine that....just saying lol
WWE of today would of had Kane V Undertaker like 6 times before WM then have the match again on the Raw after Mania then again on the following PPV
I was there that night at the garden god I miss those days wwe isn’t even remotely as good anymore
going along with the theme of where it all begins again Phil Collins Easy Lover was the theme for Wrestlemania 1 at MSG and Paul Bearer at least referenced Phil Collins with no son of mine at WrestleMania 20 at MSG
I liked the American Badass Biker Taker _only_ because it provided the potential for an Epic return to form with the Deadman.
A proper build up...
I got Goosebumps just watching this 💪🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Ministry undertaker is my favourite undertaker of all time
As a kid who adored WMXIX, I couldn't wait for WMXX and it was largley because of the way they built to this return. It's simple yet effective and the best part of building anticipation is that they never showed you what Taker would look like until he walked down the ramp at Mania, which encourages you to buy the show and tune in! Now a days they'd probably have him show up on a random Raw 2 weeks before the show tomb stoning Kane killing any mystique or desire to see him for the first time at Mania laying hands on his rival.
You should should do a video on the 2003 kane unmaking
The build up to the wrestlemania 20 match was a thing of genius
This was the true and the most impactful second coming of the undertaker amongst all his returns
I remember being 14 and pissed that Kane helped McMahon bury the Undertaker alive. Once the mind games started at the Royal Rumble I was excited because I wanted to see a return of the dark side. Wrestlemania XX will go down as his best return. If was all around a great wrestlemania especially with Eddie and Chris at the end celebrating in the ring
Great video as always
Anyone know where you can find that intro track? Sounds badass.
always such great insight and well put together. im addicted to the backlog of the channel :)
I think it’s a bit of feeling demoted... taker as the deadman was wwf creation from the beginning.. through his own charisma he established the badass an I think he felt as though it was going down a few pegs
My favriot undertaker will always be crazy cult leader. In unholy undertaker

Yeah didn't like this mma glove wearing eye shadow wearing Deadman
I have to admit the taker and kane build up was great, and even.when.taker was our for a few months the effects was great especially when the lightning hit that right in the Goldberg vs kane match,The dont have storylines like these anymore
What I always thought was cool was how the Wrestlemania 20 logo looks like The Undertaker logo cause of its shape
Ministry Taker was the best version for me.
2000 was the perfect time for him to ditch the Deadman gimmick; he would've been so out of place during 2000-2003 when the product was more grounded. His return at Wrestlemania XX was epic, especially the buildup and that entrance. I thought 2004 in general was an underrated year for Undertaker, he was one of the main reasons to even watch Smackdown during that mediocre year.
God Bless You and Your Family, Please take care because of Corona Virus outbreak
I love The Undertaker A LOT with The Deadman gimmick than with the Biker gimmick. Don't get me wrong, I loved that biker gimmick of his as it showed more of his real life persona & it'll forever be one of my favorite gimmicks. But when he's playing The Deadman role, he creates magic & the only other way I'm able to describe it is that when your in the ring with The Phenom, you're not wrestling a normal man, you're wrestling The God of Death & you're fighting for not only your career but you're also fighting for your life.
You can scare the human but can you scare the deadman think think....yes I am the observer who is observing since childhood he is the reaper of the soul who stabbed him.
