Stone Cold Steve Austin is still one of the WWE's most beloved superstars. Austin was a box office smash, generating more revenue and drawing bigger numbers than any superstar before or after his WWF arrival while becoming incredibly popular with wrestling fans. In 2001 however, Austin felt his character needed a change.
Stone Cold turned heel after WrestleMania X7 and he also played a "bad guy" role during the WCW / ECW Invasion. The heel turn wasn't as succesful as Austin hoped, so he turned back into a "good guy" heading into 2002. After refusing to work with Hollywood Hulk Hogan, Austin had a WrestleMania match with Scott Hall and really... this is when the problems began.
Stone Cold Steve Austin wouldn't see eye-to-eye with the WWF / WWE creative team. After being booked to lose to Brock Lesnar in a King of the Ring qualifying match, Steve Austin decided to walk out of the company. The WWE stated that "Austin took his ball and went home" while Steve Austin would begin spiralling downwards after leaving the company.

Heel Austin was A TERRIBLE GOD AWEFUL IDEA
"Marital issues" Is that what he called beating his wife?
Austin ended up being treated the same as Bret Hart before he left! Vince wanted to change direction and neither Austin or Hart could get on board with that!
the popularity of the Stone Cold character to this day is proof the character did not need a turn, he could have rode that lightning for as long as his body was gonna let him.
Vince pretending to have self-integrity. Now that’s funny.
We’ll never know the details of Hogan/Austin, but we know that Hogan will lie about it.
Sounds like Austin was an entitled brat.
It's not my place to talk about it but I'm going to anyway. I love it.
The stunner is the greatest finisher EVER!!!!!
What was the song in the beginning?? Thank you in advance!!
That was Hell Yeah by Me, produced by Wrestling Bios
He started with his ball And left with is Balls, And that's the bottom line ...🖕
Was that young buck at the beginning
Naw, that was me R8ed R
Austin vs Triple H at Wrestlemania 18 would have made a lot more sense
A true rattlesnake.
They started treating Stone Cold like a regular mid-card guy when he should've been treated like 2012-2018 Brock Lesnar. It was a lot of factors that lead to Steve "taking his ball and going home."
Austin had Hogan on his podcast and they admitted they should have met and they both regretted not just doing it.
Lingering neck issues? I wonder why.
It'd have just been so great if Brock took out Austin before the match started. Austin is making his way to the ring for the match and Brock attacks from behind and destroys Austin. That way Austin could have taken some time off. Brock could have gone on to dominate and even if it was a year later, Austin could have returned for revenge. That'd would have been insane.
Very nice. Can you do a video of Austin's other walk out, when he was booked to lose against Coach in 2005?
Stone Cold was right on this one. Him against Brock Lesnar was a pay-per-view tier style match, not unannounced tv. That's just inappropriate booking.
Austin made WWE, Hogan made WWF. Karma is a bitch. Life comes full circle. Wrestling is dead
If he hated the writing back then...I can just imagine what he thinks these days. Its horrible
In my opinion, the character of Austin was meant for the Monday night War. Once they won, the company didn’t know what to do with him anymore. That’s no knock on him, it’s actually a compliment. Austin was above the complacent creative direction that has slowly infected WWE over the years
The HHH push was lame honestly
How could McMahon talk about being screwed after what he did to Bret Hart!
Austin should have been the undisputed champ before Jericho he could have dropped it to him after and to be fair to Steve I get it about the Brock thing he was new and it should of been further down the line that Steve put him over
Dope intro
Thanks 💪🏾💪🏾
Austin and The Rock were amazing and helped the WWE hit the peak it did
Austin vs. Goldberg should of happened at Mania 18
Goldberg was not about to leave easy money behind you're still at work.
It's crazy how much stone cold and the rock achieved in just 5 years.
Hogan stuck around about 10-15 yrs too long. I think he'd be much more revered if he only made occasional interview appearances or did commentary after the early 90s. I don't blame Austin for turning down that 2002 match with a washed up, almost 50yr old Hogan. Hogan will forever live in the past.
Austin, Rock, Nash, Hall, Undertaker, Kane, Y2J, HHH, Chyna, Ric Flair, Guerrero, The Giant, Jim Ross, Jerry Lawler, Shano MAC, Brock Lesnar, Hogan, Mick Foley... I am sure I’m still missing a tonne of guys. Jesus that’s a roster! Probably too many guys.
I love stonecold steve austin and if I wasin his situation I would have done the exact same thing.
Austin was right. Those stories were sucking ass around that time. Once WCW came over everything that was built up for years was thrown into chaos.
I stood behind and respected Austins decision to walk out.. Nobody barely knew Brock at the time. He was a new kid.
I heard about the walkout when it first happened. I understand Steve Austin's frustration, but here is my solution: he should have sat down with Vince McMahon and tried to reach an agreement. If he couldn't reach one, then, and only then, would be the time for him to leave.
JIM ROSS IS A SAINT AND WE ARE FORTUNATE TO HAVE HIM
Ay yo
Vince: Steve how bout a Wrestlemania Match wit Hogan Austin: That doesn’t work for me brother
18:47 Oh, I'm sorry petal. Did somebody do you over? _Do unto others_
alfirst.info/load/iqGkeYrSkMSae5s/video
The attempts to bury Austin after he left felt like an ex who trashed you after a breakup, but they’re doing it to mask their hurt and humiliation over you leaving. WWE is incredibly petty and vindictive when it comes to talent leaving the company.
Oh Hell Yeah
I can’t understand what the hell your saying. Do you have peanut butter stuck on the roof of your mouth?
Biggest what if of wrestling is what if stone colds neck didnt get brokw
Steve made f.u money and said f u
You deserve 1M Subs!
Stone Cold Rap Beat ❤
Austin is my G.O.A.T. and he had a lot of good points against WWE Creative but him not putting Brock over was kinda shitty. I mean not all matches need to have a build, sometimes an out of nowhere win can get a big pop.
Creative writers screw Austin
this is around when i stopped watching. hogan, flair, hall and nash had no place being in the ring. austin wasn't austin anymore
P!ssed me off how badly they treated Austin, the man had carried the company throughout the late 90's the same way & more than Hogan did in the late 80's & early 90's. They wanted Steve Austin to basically job to Brock when he was still mostly green. With zero build up or anything just a throw away match with their biggest ever draw being the sacrificial lamb to the new blood just because of Vince's fetish for roided up meatheads
Vince is full of it . If Austin would had stayed at the arena that night no way Vince would compromise with him. It's his way or nothing and Austin knew it.
Vince sellling the stunner: Falls on his ass and dies Scott selling the stunner: *BOING*
This was the first heartbreak I ever suffered when Stone Cold left💔😢
Feel like WWE is doing the same thing to Lacey Evans right now not using her right creative team what a joke
How can Austin be mad when he turned down the match with Hulk
Austin was right to walk out, Austin and Brock should been a marquee match, but this was booked as a last min match. He was happy to put Brock over
I wonder how does he feel about creative today...
HOGAN HOGAN HOGAN YOU GOT ANSWER BRET WENT THOUGH IT STEVE AS WELL
I would Admit I would do the same thing. Invasion sucked everyone sucked since mid-ish 01 They lost there big producers
Random comment but has anyone just stopped liking Shawn Michaels? I use to love that guy but over the years ALfirst and documentaries made me indifferent
I heard it had something to do with his rivalry with Booker T.
Any match in 2002 even dark match between jobbers is bigger than the whole year of current wwe
Austin was in the shadow of greatest of all time like hogan nwo angle the undertaker jericho triple h lesnar etc. Wwe was at its peak in 2002 and 2003 when they had biggest names and best storylines so austin was jelarius that he isn't the number one anymore I think
I was watching that night I remember we didn't know exactly what was happening was it scripted was he serious it was crazy
That Taker vs Austin match at Backlash sucked
The music doesnt go with this it's so cringe
Yo that intro song actually hard af lmaoooo
Thank you
I look forward to your videos more than anything else on ALfirst!
Austin was right though. The company was heading down the tubes
When I was younger I wanted to know who comes up with the scripts for these wrestlers. Austin could've cozied up to the screenwriters.
The song at the beginning
Worst stone cold intro song
Dude the beginning was fuckin incredible....you should make an entire video with that sweet song!

I might have been in the minority here, but I was already over the whole Austin character by this point in time. His popularity was not what it was during 98-99 and There was no where else for him to go or do at this point but get talent over if anything.
That's what i said, Austins character is 1 note as hell He wasnt even over like he once was and he was broken down
I think I was that same way but halfway about the Austin character. Plus looking back on it I blame Vince for not telling Austin to take some time off and get his personal life together. Plus I think we got to ask ourselves was we even paying attention to wrestling during this time because our attention was someplace else like mixed martial arts and sports.
Not to mention he spent 2 years doing nothing but fighting Vince McMahon. After the Owen heart piledriver Austin was all legend and little substance.
Austin's 2002 storylines weren't all that good, but I don't think anything could have prevented his walkout, it's clear his life was in a mess that he had to get sorted out.
Dear God stop the rap music. Rap musicians should be mass murdered and tortured to death.
Unfortunately it's the change of the times my friend
These themes for the beginning of the videos are on point.
I'm sorry those Rhymes were whacked at the beginning
Yeah it was the right thing to do for steve personally. I mean I get it its your job but if it really affected your personal life get a breather. Plus the nagging injuries didnt help either.
If only Vince sent the writing on the wall about Steve's personal life he would have forced him into semi-retirement. Plus we got to understand that from the fan perspective was we even interested in wrestling in 2002? I mean after the Monday night wars had ended and The invasion storyline there was nothing interesting that we liked from wwe and I believe the fan base attention was someplace else like MMA and sports
You can guarantee that anything Bruce said was written and preapproved by Vince.
@Attie Pollard Never said it wasn't true, just saying that I'm sure he crawled out Vince's asshole first to ask if it was okay to say it publicly :P
I'm going to believe Bruce prichard on this one because Stone Cold Steve Austin's behavior does match what he was saying
Both Austin and creative dropped the ball in 2002. 1. Austin's character was staler than week old out of the bag bread at this point. He was basically a toned down version of his 98-99 self. His heel run from X7 to Invasion had its flaws, but it was a breath of fresh air. 2. Injuries. Austin was noticeably slowing down at this point and just didn't have the energy Rock brought. 3. Austin acted like a spoiled brat. I can understand his criticisms towards creative, but refusing to work with Hogan in a dream match we've waited years for was a huge mistake for his career and let a lot of fans down.
I would like to see 1 more match Stone Cold Steve Austin vs Cowboy James storm battle of the beer drinkin. I'm fans of both of them it would be a great match between them both. If I had to choose between both of them It would be hard for me. #causestonecoldsaidso #Sorryaboutyourdamnluck
I remember when stone cold Steve Austin walked out and I was glad when he came back.
Even when he walked out was we all shocked about it or did we just lose interest was like okay we somewhat care but we don't care that much?
That song was fire 🔥
Okay wrestling bios yall have come along way. I loved the rap intro next time tag the rapper - HELL YEAH
He tagged me in the description
Bars at the end of the video
Rock said, Austin can take his ball and go home. Then the rock took his ball and went to Hollywood
May have been hypocritical of rock to say that but don't you think the rock was kind of repeating the same opinions in the locker room about if you don't want to be in this company to get the hell out?
Like the heel turn, but not acting like your usual coward heel
Garbage creative for 1 and a half year will do that
I remember the first Wrestling show I went to was Raw in Oakland CA and the Rock had a surprise return cause Austin “took his ball and went home”
Posted this before I watched the whole thing you covered it.... brought back memories from when I was a kid lol
Debra was the first mature woman I loved
Forgot how in shape Scott Hall was still at this time.
I hate wcw . And stone cold kind of carried the company.during the Monday night wars .when I watched wrestling.you had one or the other. Austin felt like he got stabbed in the back when they were getting all the work
Question do you feel that in 2002 when it came to WWE that our interest was someplace else in the sports and entertainment world like football and MMA? That was the reason for the ratings to drop?
On paper Stone Cold vs Scott Hall sounds like a instant classic. But Nope.
Would love to see Austin do some work for WWE in creative. Think he would be really good.
Give my man a sub for that intro. 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Thanks man!! I hope some more people do the same lol
