Hulk Hogan’s storied WCW career came to an end after Bash at the Beach 2000. Hulk Hogan was scheduled to face WCW Champion Jeff Jarrett for the title, and Jarrett lay down for Hogan. Vince Russo, the head of WCW creative at the time, tossed the WCW championship into the ring and Hulk Hogan left the arena as champion. Vince Russo returned to the ring, and he cut a scathing promo on Hulk Hogan where it was declared that Hogan would never been seen in a WCW ring again.
Bash at the Beach 2000, Vince Russo, and the whole Hulk Hogan situation was one of the more curious wrestling stories of the year. While Russo claims that Hogan and Eric Bischoff were in on the storyline and the whole thing was a “worked shoot”, Hogan and Bischoff beg to differ. The whole Bash at the Beach situation ended up in the courtroom, and Hulk Hogan hired lawyers in an attempt to sue WCW for defamation, breach of contract, lost income and more. In a rare instance of a wrestling storyline ending up in a real court, it became increasingly clear that everyone involved had “worked themselves into a shoot”.
The whole Russo vs Hogan saga is covered in this video, along with Hogan’s WCW run in the year 2000. Hulk Hogan became part of the “Millionaires Club”, a faction of WCW veterans who feuded with the “New Blood”. Of note was Hogan’s rivalry with Billy Kidman and the on-screen falling out of Eric Bischoff and Hulk Hogan.

Topics and matches include:
00:00 - Hogan returns to feud with Flair & Luger
04:41 - The Hogan vs Kidman feud
10:17 - Bash at the Beach 2000
14:50 - Russo and Hogan go to court
- Much more!

Then Hulk came back to WWE and became champion again, had a match with the Rock. So I guess Hulk still ran wild and Russo was out of work.... Most of the young stars were all trash with only a few exceptions.

According to Bischoff the plan was to have Hogan win the belt, leave WCW in disgust with the title, and go home for 2-3 months while a epic tournament takes place to crown a new world champion where in the finals he’d make his return as the “Real Champion”. This was Eric Bischoff’s idea that ultimately got green lighted over the plan that Russo wanted to do Russo wanted Hogan to put over Jarrett.

Great video. From what I saw/heard Hogan wanted to do a storyline with Booker T, revolving around the WCW World title. Kind of like they did with the two Intercontinental titles in WWF/E with HBK and Scott Hall when he was Razor Ramon. And it probably could have worked, but Hogan had other ideas on what was going to happen, while Russo had his own. I just want to know who thought it was a good idea to hire Vince Russo and let him have total creative control in the first place? He had some good ideas, but a lot of it was poor execution. IMO, WCW had one too damn many stables. And I agree, the company needed new life because you can only watch Hogan vs. Flair, Sting vs. Hogan, yadda yadda yadda so many times before you get sick of it.

Probably my favorite wrestler ever. I know he gets a lot of flack from "smart" fans for not putting people over, but the man pushed wrestling to new heights TWICE. He was doing something right - even for all his faults. Hulkamania pushed wrestling to the mainstream and, had it not been for that, a lot of people would have never been turned on to wrestling. Second, the nWo made wrestling "cool" again after it had gotten stale. He was the right guy for that role. Another thing is that his match with the Rock at WrestleMania 18 had one of (if not THE) hottest crowd ever and he didn't need to do anything in the match to get a reaction. Late term WCW was not a place for him. It had a small group of big stars, but was full of guys that weren't even close to being on their level. The pushes for all the younger talent felt so forced on me when I was watching it. I'm like, "Okay, now Kidman's a star? And he's on the same level as Hulk Hogan? Right..." Anyway, thanks for reading. Just wanted to put my two cents in. I think he's fantastic, but he doesn't work in every situation.

Everything Russo said was true though, Hogan may have been popular among the kiddies but he was a terrible wrestler, carried by better wrestlers, look at both of his outings with Ultimate Warrior. Both of these 2 couldn't tell a decent story in the ring they each needed a better wrestler to carry them through a match, Never in wrestling history has a man with so little talent been handed so much

@5:25 Okay, here's what I never got. Russo wants to push the younger talent who have been 'held back' by the older stars. Why cast the younger talent as the heels? And I am alone in thinking it should have been Mike Awesome in the feud with Hogan?

One of the only things Russo did right was getting rid of Hulk Hogan. Hogan had already long worn out his welcome in the company and took them for all they were worth at that point. Heel, face or tweener everyone was sick of him and he was no longer a ratings draw either.

I can't believe Hogan didn't want to drop the belt to Sting at Starrcade 1997 because he felt Sting wasn't in wrestling shape. They built that rilvary and storyline up for almost a year. It was beautifully done, only for WCW to take a big fat piss on it. That was the first domino to fall for WCW. Your biggest homegrown talent, biggest draw, and star vs a WWE homegrown talent, big draw and star, at your biggest pay per view, and you end it like that? It has to be up there with the match that never happened between Flair and Hogan at Wrestlemania 1992.
