In the late 90s, the WWF benefited from having two huge main event superstars on the roster, Stone Cold Steve Austin and The Rock. Both guys had a legitimate claim of being the number 1 superstar in the whole wrestling business, and the WWF flourished greatly thanks to Austin and Rock being active at the same time during much of the Attitude Era. Stone Cold was a huge draw, his contributions to the WWF had resulted in the company seeing it's greatest financial growth in history, and The Rock had unmatched charisma that made him a megastar both inside and outside the ring.
When Stone Cold Steve Austin faced The Rock at WrestleMania XV, the match was so good that it was eventually decided that both competitors would square off in a further two WrestleMania events. Each match was different from the other; WrestleMania XV was all about "The Corporation" taking down the blue-collar working man, WrestleMania X7 was about both men trying to prove that they were the number 1 guy in the wrestling business, and WrestleMania XIX told the story of the succesful entertainer coming back to get redemption in the ring. The WrestleMania Trilogy featuring Stone Cold Steve Austin vs The Rock was extremely captivating and this video aims to tell the story of each match.
Topics and Matches include:
00:00 - The Intercontinental Title
03:06 - Rock becomes "The Corporate Champion"
07:28 - Austin vs Rock - WrestleMania XV
10:02 - The Road to The Astrodome
15:37 - Austin vs Rock - WrestleMania X7
21:16 - "Hollywood" Rock
24:19 - Austin vs Rock - WrestleMania XIX
- Much More!

XIX ages the best, I loved the match live, but it replays better, especially now we know it was Austin’s last match. And as a Rock fan, it definitely scratched a nagging itch lol. I like 17, but I remember being upset the last five minutes of the match was just chair shots. Though that My Way promo is still legendary, and Paul Heyman was amazing on commentary with JR. I like that duo more than JR/King.
To me, this is the greatest wrestling rivalry ever, WrestleMania or not. Nothing has topped this or them since then.
Creatively bankrupt. Perfect words to describe the WWE today
20:00 here we are boys 2021
Pretty crazy that all 3 matches were quality. Even that last match where Austin wasn't in the best health was still fantastic.
@wrestling bios you should do an episode of HBK dormant years when he did nothing but do commish work and several appearances but no ring work
I was not expecting to cry at the end. All the memories.
The eyebrows vs the no eyebrows 😂😂😂😂😂😂
Triple H vs The Rock @ WrestleMania XIX would've been a classic.
The "Million Dollar Dream" at WrestleMania X7, shades of the "Million Dollar Man" Ted Dibiase !!!!
WrestleMania X7 was the Greatest WrestleMania Of All Time
WrestleMania XIX was a good, but sloppy match. The Rock's move set was off and not on cue. It felt weak in the ring.
"Stone Cold" Steve Austin vs "The Rock" Rocky Maivia
Wrestlemania 17 was the first mania i was allowed to watch as a kid. Ive been running around chopping my crotch and handing out middle fingers ever since then😂😂😂
I’ve subscribed to many great wrestling channels, but this channel truly became my number one place to go for the best wrestling content!
Fantastic channel.
The build up for WM17 was so perfect we didn’t realize Austin turned heel the second Raw after the Royal Rumble
Well that's expected Austin being a lot more battle beaten than The Rock! Steve is 6 yrs older than Dewayne in thier last match!
Daniel Bryan Vs miz😃
the rock is a fraud and so many buy it. proves were getting dumber
I was at Wrestlemania 19, and The Rock is one of my favorite wrestlers, so I loved that match.
XV man those times for me were great I was 17 just enjoying life. Everything was fresh then. Now I'm old and bitter but watching this nice to bring me back
The rock is by far the bigger celebrity, I mean he's been one of the highest paid guys in hollyweird for years and was THE highest paid a year or two ago. That being said, Stone Cold was and still is the biggest draw in wrestling. The rock in my eyes was always number 2 compared to Stone Cold
It is stupid for fans to boo The Rock willingly after cheering him leading up to The King of The Ring PPV a few years before WM 17, but then bitch and moan and bitch and moan continuously about having to boo Austin and their only defense of said criticism is "AUSTIN WAS TOO POPULAR TO BOOOOooo...ooooOOOOOooo..." when Austin turned heel at the biggest show of the year, as The Rock was also popular, but as soon as he turned on the people and joined forces with McMahon to defeat Mankind at KOTR, well no one batted an eye and accepted booing him again, but will have the biggest hissy fit about having to boo the texas rattlesnake.
Imho this is the greatest rivalry ever but man you can make a case for Triple H vs Stone Cold,The Rock vs Triple H,Shawn Michaels vs Triple H,Kurt Angle vs Stone Cold,UT vs Batista,Triple H vs Batista,UT vs Edge,John Cena vs Edge and etc tho
Never thought 19 was as good as 15 or 17. Aside from Austin's career coming to an end, it didn't have the purpose of the first two matches, just felt thrown together so Rocky could have a win while there was still time. That Rock concert on the go-home Raw was superb though.
Rock had slimmed down a lot at the third match
The beauty was the “thank you” from the rock in the last one when he pinned Austin. A true great that puts the likes of Hogan to shame
10:24 Kurt Angle won the WWF Championship at No Mercy against The Rock.
Fam I forgot just how good that promo video was I stopped the video watched it and felt the same feeling I felt watching that PPV
Epic times. Only back then you have two biggest baby faces of the company, instead of one. Something that has never been replicated and never will. Glad I grew up on watching this.
The Rock actually talked about what he said to Stone Cold after the Mania XIX match on the DVDs special features. Years before whatever Instagram thing you are referring to.
2003 Rock was a god send. So bummed he was short lived. Would have loved to see him as WHC with that persona, but we know HHH ego wouldn't have allowed that. 😒🙄
reigns and drew could pull this off
WrestleMania 15 which was a two match show
Y'all forgot the greatest segment for Stone Cold and The Rock. The moment the Rock threw Stone Cold over a bridge.
I feel he's probably going to talk about that once we have a video on Corporate Rock.
Stone Cold Steve Austin ftw!
Wish I had of savored the moment more between 1998-2001 when watching these 2 and WWF in general. I was only in high school at the time and didn't fully appreciate just how great they were and that we probably won't ever see anyone come close to The Rock and Stone Cold's popularity ever again.
Rock thought Austin was getting ahead of himself? Lol Rock was jealous. Austin is wayyyyyyyyy better than Rock.
If I ever meet the rock I would ask him respectively did it suck knowing how big you were but the fact that you were never stone cold big
Austin was 1 note as hell
The rock had some serious gyno going
Why do you try to censor the blood? It's kind of annoying.
The two biggest wrestling stars in the history of the industry. People many times have said either one would have dominated an era of wrestling, but this rare point in history they both coexisted in the same era, the best era. Many sports have classic and legendary rivalries and events. These two were IT for pro wrestling! It’s poetic that Austin’s final match was against the Rock in Wrestlemania.
Austin going Heel made the most sense to me. He was actually funny with Kurt to me & i honestly think at that time Rock or Austin losin clean woulda hurt .
The debra thing came in the build up for 17 because Austin & McMahon was settin Rock up the whole time lol
The best heel wrestler is Stone Cold while The Rock is best baby face in that time. Attitude Era changes everything. I like both of them as rivals. Which reminds me Warrior vs Hogan, and Batista vs Orton. And John Cena? You cant see him. lol
How to you get the cool intro music
Great little doc. Concise and best Austin Rock one I've seen.
This was only time rock beat ausitn . Even in their raw match ausitn win by dq and beat in steel caye by cheating
Ok it was only he beat him on one
Technically he beat him at survivor series 01 when he won the match by pinning stone cold
I have found myself binge watching the content on this channel for the past two weeks. My favorite vids are definitely the Monday Night Wars series. Good to revisit this match trilogy too.
This is THE greatest rivalry in wrestling history....we know steamboat and flair..Andre and hogan..But NOTHING compared to Austin Vs. The Rock Now Stone Cold Vs. McMahon is 2nd to this only..if Vince was a wrestler then it would be the best of all time but Austin V Rock is just the greatest
I loved this period, today fans are so short changed. At this time you just couldn’t wait for the next episode. We had stone cold at his prime and then the rock was just becoming absolutely undeniably good but there was so many other super super stars we were spoilt as fans.
I mean to think they had the Rock, Stone Cold, Triple H, Shawn Michaels, Mick Foley, The Undertaker and Kane at the time was just astounding. The Rock vs Austin= The most profitable rivalry Triple H vs The Rock = the classic face v heel rivalry Austin v HHH = The high stakes rivalry The Undertaker vs Kane = The best storyline rivalry
That last Wrestlemania match was meaningless as the title was not on the line, meaning Rock should have won a title finally!😉
Dude all their matches were play by play the same moves lmao their promos and build up just made it seem different
All due respect to the Austin Mcmahon rivalry which helped turn the tide for the wwe during the Monday night wars but The Rock vs Stone Cold was the greatest rivalry in the attitude era which gave us an epic trilogy of three classic Wrestlemania matches but for me their WM X7 battle was their greatest match in the main event. The buildup was fantastic and the match absolutely delivered which saw two of the biggest and most popular stars wage war for the world title to prove who was number one. It was the greatest time to be a wrestling fan and everytime these two got together, it was pure magic and a hell of a rollercoaster ride. I'm really glad Austin got to have his last match with Rock at Wrestlemania as it was a fitting end to a great trilogy.
this was WWF was at it's best.
Who's hungry for some cereal?
Did you refer to Austin as middle-class? What?
When me and my brother played wrestling games I was Austin and he was always The Rock, I was always MachoMan and he was Hogan, and I was Orton when he was Cena.
Choking up myself thank you stone cold and the rock for making this such an amazing time in my young life
Easily the best storytelling from the WWF there has ever been.
All due Respecks to Vince for bringing this all to us. Stone Cold vs The Rock Stone Cold vs Triple H The Rock vs Triple H 3 of the Best rivalries and tag teams
This was to the attitude era what Hogan/Piper was to the 1980s IMO.
Love the music, who does the music for u..???
Two legends and their respect for each other is great to see. They drove themselves and wrestling on to another level. They both were smart enough to recognise that. Unlike like Michaels with Hart.
No offense to Billy Gunn but at the royal rumble last 4 it's the classic which one of these is not like the other
Billy gunn is a superstar
So he did
Bret vs Austin was my all time favourite feud and probably Austin's most important feud but this is without a doubt the money rivalry
I didn't know Stone Cold wasn't medically cleared for that Mania match. Mad respect for him working that match.
WWE is, indeed, "creatively bankrupt", in comparison to the AE and the RAE.
Its the greatest ever wrestlemania mainevent no other rivalry will top it at Wrestlemania.
Most of the time I am working on something either as a hobby or sometimes for work when I have the tv on in the background, but this was so captivating I had to stop everything and just enjoy this. Another great factual portrayal of history, thank you WB, you do a great service to the history of sports entertainment with your tributes.
I know I am in the minority but my favorite match between the two was Wrestlemania 19. The drama and the emotion in the match make it my favorite.
Those Rock and Hurricane vignettes are probably the greatest comedy promos of all time.
2001 royal rumble final 4: rock, kane, austin...and billy gunn 🎵 one of these things is not like the other 🎵
triple h sucks
Unpopular opinion : I loved Randy Ortan and John Cena ‘s fued
Great wm trilogy, three different great matches.
U should do a Triple H and The Rock rivalry documentary
Remember the next night on RAW (after XIX) when The Rock kept mockingly looking for Stone Cold backstage? LMAO that was great.
I really thought the rock won 2 out of 3 matches with stone cold I don't know it must be a Mandela effect lol I just remember the rock beating him up alot.
Correction. The Rock didn't lose the right to face Triple H at WM19. In the backstage segment he said to Bischoff he didn't want to face Triple H because at this time he needs a victory over Austin at WM rather than the world title. So he cancelled his match with Booker T. Then Bischoff said that he still needs The Rock in the match at RAW because "sponsors and advertises were promised to see The Rock in action" or something like that. So The Rock went on to face The Hurricane with whom he had a backstage segments for some weeks during that period. Still an awesone video though. One of the best feuds of all time. Maybe you can cover the rest of their matches too? Would be great!
That sit down interview that these guys did with JR was some seriously amazing work
Their Mania Trilogy is the best in WWE history. And I would argue that their Mania 17 match pretty much laid the foundation for every major main event in wrestling.
Great job brother. Amazing Video.
I think bankrupt is not the best choice of word, I believe for the story lines today in WWE is high jacked buy lame writers.
I love the rivalry. Amazing year for wrestling fans..
Who noticed the soud is identical to the youporn soundtrack? lol
the rock oversold the stunner because he and Steve Austin used to bet cases of beer on how much rock could oversell his stunner
Their match at WM 19 was the true end of an era. A very few saw that coming.
That interview promo for WM17 with JR, Austin and Rock was the standard bearer for hyping-up main events
Great Documentary I hope you upload 1. Flair Vs Steamboat Trilogy 2.HBK VS Bret Hart Trilogy 3.HHH Vs. Mick Foley Trilogy 4.Eddie Vs. Rey Mysterio Trilogy 5.HHH Vs Batista Trilogy 6.Brothers of Destruction Trilogy (Attitude/Ruthless Agression Era)
That WM19 match is a real "End of an Era" match. A standard singles match with no added stipulations. Sometimes simplicity is all you need to sell something. It was a beautiful end to the rivalry.
Bro, you should do a video chronicling the genesis of the 2 man Power Trip. Their beginning, their rise, & their fall
Yeah i hare the way the i.c and u.s belts get thrown around these days because it was the stepping stone but I suppose it's all belts now.
Nothing was the same after they both left the full time roster. They were the Ali/Frazier of the company. The two greatest we've ever seen. Hogan, Michaels, Taker, Hart, Flair are in the second tier. Rock/Austin really are in a class of their own. I miss the peak 98 - 2001 days with Kurt and Jericho, too.
Nahhhhhhh
Nobody could sell a stunner like Rocky...
Will there ever be a Trilogy this good in wrestling again?
